Dream Acts
Funded by the Town of Chapel Hill's "Into the Streets" grant, "Dream Acts" was the culmination of a community art project that began in January, 2011. The exhibition pictured below was the outcome of work initiated by Eleanor Blake, Neill Prewitt and me during our involvement with residents of the Abbey Court Apartments in Carrboro, NC. It was comprised of residents’ art, co-created work, and our work. Through an environmental assemblage of video, photography and objects, "Dream Acts" shared the creative energy of Abbey Court with the broader community, while exploring the boundaries, real and imaginary, that shape our perception of and interaction with an environment or a group.
The exhibition ran June 10–July 9, 2011 in Chapel Hill. On June 22, we held a panel discussion on community-building strategies, which can be viewed in its entirety here.
