The NC State Graphic Design grad student symposium (OptionShiftControl) took place in December — it was a smashing success, in my opinion. Lots of participation and idea-exchange among students from State, Cranbrook, and CalArts. The project was to investigate the continuum of control that exists between the designer and the user. The dynamic at play was manifest in just about every aspect of the symposium, which looked through the lens of control at topics as diverse as curating, facebook, the Rural Studio, and Starbucks’ drink-ordering syntax. Earlier, we were asked to submit background images for the website that spoke to this notion of continuum. Here’s one of mine.
here’s the video.
